The study included 600 participants aged between 3 and 7. Speech elicitation was conducted by a picturenaming task in which target phoneme was represented in initial, medial, final and syllabic position. The results show that the alveolar trill should be developed by the age of six after an intensive period of development at the age of five. Omissions do not occur in the speech of three year olds and are not typical rendition for that age ; substitutions should be considered developmental by the age of 4 ; 6 and distortions by the age of 6 ; 0.
